Cape Fiolent

The Nature preserve with this name was founded in 1996. Covers an area of 31.7 hectares.
Cape Fiolent is a pisturesque coastline stretch of land and rocks situated on the westernmost part of the Southern Coast of the Crimean Peninsula. For two kilometres the coast consists of volcanic rocks that form a gently sloping dome. On the seashore, there are numerous niches, stone chaoses, miniature islets, and abrasion arches. Especially impressive are the pointed cliff of Cape Fiolent and the huge Grotto of Diana. The beauty of inanimate environment is enhanced with the thickets of junipers, clematises, and ivies. Of the plants growing here, high juniper (Juniperus exce/sa) and Crimean cotoneaster are listed in the Red Data Book of Ukraine. Among the rare species of animals there live the Crimean gecko, glass lizard, and Crimean mole cricket.
