Koktebel
Koktebel: the name of this settlement is translated from the Turk language as the land of blue peaks. In the 8th c. a large medieval settlement stood on Tepsen' Hill, which in the course of time turned into a commercial seaport. The beauty of the settlement was depicted in Cimmerian landscapes by M. A. Voloshin, K. F. Bogaevsky, I. K. Aivazovsky, and others. Gradually, Koktebel' turned into the colony of scholars, artists, and writers. Today, it receives thousands of vacation travelers and tourists each week, especially in the summer time, when the Black Sea beaches welcome everyone who happen to visit Crimea. Koktebel is quickly becoming internationally popular for it's annual jazz festivals, which are held here each summer - in the end of tourist season. Stary Krym Historico-Cultural Preserve near Koktebel. The preserve includes the remains of the medieval town of Solkhat (13th - 18th c.) and the Museum of A. S. Grin, a branch of the Grin Memorial Museum in Feodosiya. The museum is opened in the house where the writer spent two last years of his life. |
