Slavyanogorsk Slavyanogorsk is a small town (about 5 thousand people) in the Donetsk oblast. It is situated on the left bank of the Siversky Donets river – the main river of the eastern Ukraine. Slavyanogorsk is famous with its Svyatogorsk (lit. “Holy Mountains”) Monastery. Founded at the end of the XVII century on the top of the limestone mountains rising along the river, with centuries the monastery grew into an effective ensemble of unique buildings. In Soviet time, the Slvyatogorsk Monastery was expropriated from monks and turned into a health center. During decades, there were built several new buildings for that purpose. Although, at the end of the XX century the Monastery was given back to the church again, the “Holy Mountain” health center is still open to public and serves hundreds of people each year. As a health resort Slavyanogorsk is famous for its curative nature and climate known for big amount of sunny days, the high level of air ionization, and almost complete absence of winds in this area.
