The Carpathian Mountains

The Carpathian Mountains (Ukr. “Karpaty”) are located on the West of Ukraine covering the territory of four regions (oblasts) of Ukraine: Zakarpatia, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk and Chernivtsi. The Carpathian region is considered to be one of the best resort places in Ukraine. Primeval forests, majestic mountain peaks and picturesque alpine meadows, mountain lakes of the Chornohora range lure with their unique beauty. Unique landscapes, comfortable summer and winter tourist resorts, healing mineral springs create ideal conditions for a good rest and treatment.

The Carpathian region has also rich culture and interesting history. It can be divided in two parts: Subcarpathian and Transcarpathian. The highest peak of the Carpathians is the Goverla Mountain (2061 m). Next to it in height are: Petros, Hamster, Priest- Ivan. The territory of the mountains is populated quite densely. Some Ukrainian families are living even on the highest peaks of the mountains in very remote places. Living in such isolation, they preserved a lot of old traditions and rites, which makes it especially interesting for tourists.

The Carpathians are very rich for mineral springs. Each year thousands of people visit numerous mineral water healing centers. Fresh air with a big amount of ozone, the scent of wet woods and mineral water have magic healing impact on health.

If you prefer active leisure, you can enjoy walking tours, bike, jeep or horse rides through the mountains. The most extreme tourists can try hang-gliders. Carpathians have many places for the skiing and snowboarding. The most popular ski bases and health resorts are:Dragobrat, Slavs'ko, Bukovel', Volovets, Podobovets, Vorokhta. Besides that, such places as, Yaremche, Slavskoye, Sinevir, Yablunitsa, Mezhgor'e, Gut, Svalyava, are also popular among tourists.
