The Square of Freedom in the middle of Kharkiv (Kharkov), Ukraine, reminds these days a huge sand-box. About 30 sculptors from different countries of the world are creating a magic city from sand. The sculptures, which will be the characters of various fairy tales, are being made from 2 thousand cubic meters of sand brought to the Square. The visitors will see Mermaid, Cinderella, the Russian Baba Yaga and several dozens of other personages. The sand city will be designed in a shape of the labyrinth where everyone will be able to wander around, enjoying the artists’ works and taking pictures.

It is planned to finish creating the city by June, 1 – the International Day of Defense of Children. The most competent jury, consisting of children, will chose the best sand sculptures. Organizers of the festival say that the Kharkivians and the city guests will have an opportunity to enjoy the sand city till August, 1.
