Train Transportation
In the framework of preparation to the Euro-2012 Football Championship which will be hosted in Poland and Ukraine, the Ukrainian government continues development of the high-speed operation on Ukrainian railroads. In particular, the construction works are taking place for such directions as, Kyiv – Poltava – Krasnograd – Lozova – Donetsk; Krasnograd – Dnepropetrovsk; Kyiv – Zmerinka – Lviv; Burty – Korystovka. The program of electrification of the Ukrainian railroads for 2008-2020 is one of the priorities of the development of the railroad transport in Ukraine. At the current moment, the length of the electrified roads is 9670.6 km (or 6009.03 miles), which is 44,1% of the total length of the railroads in Ukraine. By 2020, it’s planned to add another 2254 km (or 1400.57 miles) to that figure. The main construction works will be done on the Southern and Odessa Railroads. Traditionally, the railroad remains one of the most popular kinds of transportation in Ukraine, although due to the world fuel and energy crisis and some other factors the prices for train tickets have noticeably grown during the last couple of years. |
