Street view of Ukrainian cities on Google

A street view service of Ukrainian cities Kiev, Kharkiv, Lviv, Odessa and Donetsk is now available on Google!

Vinnitsa is the city of the central part of Ukraine. The city spreads out along the banks of the Southern Buh River.

Vinnitsa has been an important trade and political center since the sixteenth century, when the main defense constructions were found by Lithuanian princedom as a fortress-city to protect against Tatar’s invasions.

From the historical books the city of Vinnitsa is known by its role in the Ukrainian liberation movement led by Bohdan Khmelnytsky.  In 1651 the Cossacks defeated the Polish army for which the obelisk monument stands today.

Vinnitsa was also the city where the first Ukrainian president Mikhayil Hrushevsky in 1917 declared independence that brought up to the civil war afterwards.
During the Second World War Hitler sited his eastern headquarters FHQ Wehrwolf near the city in 1942-1943. Unfortunately due to the heavy bombing by fascists there is no “old city” left, but certain parts of it remind about the sophisticated life story of this city!
