Crimea Tour 4   Mountains and Nature Parks of Crimea

Sevastopol - Cape Fiolent - Chufut Kale - Mangup Kale - Bolshoy Kanyon - Ai Petri - Yalta Nature Preserve - Uchan-Su Waterfall - Red Cave - Chatyrdag - Marble Cave - Alushta - Partenit - Simferopol

Description:

Spend 6 days hiking about Crimea. Take daily guided walks to and about nature parks and natural monuments of the peninsula. Stay in tents or guest houses most of the nights, and take short bus trips between towns when necessary. While you are walking along mountains passes, your English speaking guides will tell you about history of each place you visit; they will share their knowledge about the natural, geographical, climatic and ethnic specifics of each area. You will enjoy visiting ancient fortifications, cave towns, old monasteries and churches. You will also see the astounding beauty of Crimean rocks, the freshness of forests, vast meadows, mountain plateaus and swift waterfalls. Be ready to spend some time walking with back pack, cook your food on the open fire and sleep in tent at least one night during your hike. The trip does not require special physical training but requires good walking ability and will be perfect for those who have healthy, active lifestyle.


Itinerary:

Day 1    
Arrive to Sevastopol. Sign into hotel or  a guest house. Visit Khersones nature preserve, attend museum of anciend Greek culture and take a look at the Khersones Cathedral. Spend late afternoon and evening exploring central city. Walk along Bolshaya Morskaya street to Art Buhta, Primorsky Boulevard, and Grafskaya Pristan'.

Day 2

Sign out of the hotel, store your things and hiking equipment on the bus and take trip to Cape Fiolent. Take pictures of beautiful seaside landscapes, swim in the sea, walk around the beautiful rocky mountains area. Proceed by bus to Bakhchi-Saray. Take a walk about the town, visit local museum of Tatar Khanate and have lunch in a Tatar kitchen restaurant. Take a walk to the mountains. Walk up to the mountain plateau of Chufut-Kale. Walk around the ancient cave town and learn about its history from your guide. Visit a cave monastery and Orthodox church at the foot of the plateau. 

In the evening your group can choose one of two options - either to stay on the plateau overnight and cook your dinner on the fire and sleep in tents, or go down to the town and spend the night in a guest house at the foot of the mountain.

Day 3

Get ready for a full day walk about forest and mountain paths. You will start in Chufut Kale and walk to the other mountain plateau Mangup Kale, where you will explore another ancient cave town, visit an old cemetery of Crimean war and visit numerous places that remember various historical events. Your guides will tell you beautiful legends of these places. You will walk all day with a few short stops for refreshment drinks, to swim in a lake, and to have lunch. On this stretch of your route, it is possible to hire horses for a 3-hour ride. You will procees to Bolshoy Canyon of Crimea. In the afternoon, you will arrive to Ai-Petri, the highest point of the Crimean mountains chain. In the early evening, by an Ai-Petrian cable car, you will glide down to Yalta and sigh into hotel (or a guest house). Have a refreshing rest and a good dinner in one of the Yalta restaurants. The most active group members may want to try the taste of Yalta's night life.

Day 4

You will spend this day in or around Yalta. Morning - take a swim on one of Yalta's beaches before or after breakfast. Take an excursion to visit Yalta's Nature Preserve  - a beautiful area with unique subtropical flora and fauna. Enjoy visiting Uchan-Su waterfall. In the afternoon, you will have a few hours of free time in Yalta. Optional excursions will be offered to your choice. Those who have the trurst for exploring new places are advised to walk along Tsarskaya Path near Livadia, or to take a walk about Massandra park. Another option is to take a 2-hour boat trip along the coast of Yalta, either to Gurzuf and famous Swallows Nest or around Ayu-Dag mountain to Artek, a resort town which was turned into a huge recreation complex for children, since the time of the USSR. You will walk down to the seaside, take a refreshing swim in the sea and have a little excursion about the town (includiing the museum of space and austronauts). In the afternoon, you can visit Massandra vinery plant and attend a wine tasting ceremony.

Day 5

Have an early morning swim on the beach and have a good breakfast. Take a bus ride to the foot of Chatyrdag mountain. You will take a full day trip to the most famous and the largest caves of Crimea - the Red Cave  and the Marble cave. Make sure that you have warm clothes, and be ready to walk a lot. YOu will see the beauty of huge 50-meter high cave halls, underground ponds and picturesque grottos inside the caves. Then, you can walk up to the top of Chatyrdag mountain and take breathtaking pictures of the coastal area from there. Return to Yalta in the evening.

Day 6

Morning - sign out of your hotel (or guest house). Take a bus trip to Alushta. Visit Partenit. Optional - visiting Dolpins show in Partenit. Have a swim on one of the beaches, then have lunch in one of Alushta's restaurants (we recommend a Tatar kitchen restaurant), and take a bus ride to Simferopol. Take a short walk about central Simferopol. Have dinner in a Ukraine national kitchen restaurant Knyazha Vtiha. Proceed to the airport (train station) and take your flight (train) to your next destination.
