Using ATM in Ukraine today
As economic recess is accelerating, Ukrainians are experiencing difficulties with using ATMs in all cities. The machines known as bankomates to all population now (almost all compnaies have established the system of paying their workers via ATMs recently), are empty or nearly empty. Most of the ATMs would only allow you to withdraw a maximum sum of 1000 ghryvna per day, which is equal to about $110, according to the current dollar rate (about nine ghryvna to one dollar).
If you are lucky, you may withdraw up to 2000 ghryvna (about $220), but only in a few ATMs. Thus, if you are planning a trip to Ukraine and if you know you will need to spend some cash on the very first day(s) of the trip, please keep this in mind. Some visitors prefer to bring cash to pay for their hotel rooms or apartments rent right away.
If you bring some cash with you, it is necessary to be very careful with carrying money, espacially in crowded places like metro, train stations, but stations etc. Be sure to keep your cash in a few different places in small portions of money, and to keep it in really safe places - inside pockets of your clothes, deep in your luggage bag or somewhere deep in your handbag. The cases of robbery happen from time to time, so please tale all the possible measures to protect your money and luggage.
