Crimea Flower Festival

Every year in late October – early November, a small village Nikita, which is near Yalta, turns into a fascinating festival of beauty - the Nikitsky Botanic Garden opens its doors to all who loves chrysanthemums. For a period of about a month these flowers become the main attraction of the garden. Chrysanthemums are daisy-type flowers which come in a wide range of colors including yellow, orange, red, bronze, white, lavender, and pink. These autumn flowers, symbolizing wealth, fidelity and truth, have been grown in Chinese gardens for more than 2,000 years.

In overall, the Nikitsky Botanic Garden has a collection which consists of about 22 000 chrysanthemum plants that are different by size, color and blossom time. If the weather is fine and stable it allows enjoying these wonderful flowers during almost 8 weeks. Coming to Nikita, you have a unique chance to see in one place over 200 sorts of chrysanthemums.

In China this beautiful flower is called “a sun flower” due to the peculiarity to turn its head towards the sun regardless the weather.
